Assessment Date: 5 September 2026
Interview Date: 24 September 2026
Overview of Interview Process
Fractal Analytics conducted an on-campus recruitment drive at PICT, Pune, for the Imagineer role.
The complete recruitment process consisted of Online Assessment → Technical Interview Round 1 → Technical Interview Round 2 → HR Interview.
I successfully cleared all the rounds and was selected for the Imagineer role at Fractal Analytics.
Initial Screening – Online Assessment
Date: 5 September 2026
Duration: Approximately 90 minutes
Mode: Online and Proctored
The online assessment consisted of multiple sections covering aptitude and technical concepts.
Aptitude
The aptitude section included Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, and Analytical Thinking.
One interesting part of the assessment was that I was asked to explain one aptitude question through a live video recording. Instead of simply selecting an answer, I had to explain my approach and reasoning.
Technical Section
The technical section included Python, Java, SQL, and General Programming Concepts.
The assessment also included SQL questions where I had to write complete SQL queries rather than simply selecting an option.
After completing the assessment, shortlisted candidates were informed about the interview process. I was happy to be shortlisted for the technical interviews.
Technical Interview Round 1
Duration: Approximately 40 minutes
Mode: Online – HackerRank Interview Platform
The interview started with basic introductory questions.
The interviewer asked questions such as:
Tell me about yourself.
Explain one of the projects mentioned on your resume.
What ML algorithms did you use in your project?
Why did you choose those particular algorithms?
Explain the parameters of the algorithms you used.
What is the difference between standardization and normalization?
Explain Decision Tree in detail.
Explain Random Forest.
Why is it called a Random Forest?
Give an example of how a Decision Tree works.
Questions related to other projects and technologies mentioned on my resume.
The interviewer went beyond basic definitions and asked questions to check whether I actually understood the algorithms used in my projects.
For example, instead of simply asking what Random Forest is, the interviewer asked why it is called a Random Forest and how a Decision Tree would work on an example.
This made it clear that candidates should not only know the names of the algorithms mentioned on their resumes but should also understand their working, parameters, and reasons for choosing them.
DSA / Coding Question
After the project and ML discussion, the interviewer asked which programming language I was comfortable with.
I mentioned my preferred language, after which the interviewer gave me a recursion-based coding question involving salary and age using two variables.
I was asked to write the recursive code and explain the code and logic.
The interviewer focused not only on writing the code but also on understanding the recursion and explaining how it worked.
After completing the interview, I received an email informing me that I had been shortlisted for the next round.
Technical Interview Round 2
Duration: Approximately 20–25 minutes
Mode: Online
This round was mainly focused on my projects and internship experience.
The interviewer asked me to explain one of my major projects in detail and also discussed my internship experience.
The discussion covered project architecture, technology stack, backend implementation, database design, deployment, challenges faced during the internship, what I did differently from others, what I learned during the internship, and future improvements.
The interviewer went through different parts of my project and asked why I had implemented certain features using particular technologies or approaches.
The discussion was not limited to the project's basic functionality. The interviewer wanted to understand whether I genuinely worked on the project and understood the decisions behind its implementation.
The internship discussion also focused on my contribution, learning, challenges, and what I did differently.
I was able to explain the project and internship experience confidently because I had worked on them myself.
I successfully cleared this round as well.
HR Interview
Duration: Approximately 25 minutes
Mode: Online
The HR interview mainly focused on communication, behavioral skills, motivation, and my understanding of the company and role.
Some of the questions asked were:
Tell me about yourself.
Explain one of your projects in simple terms.
Why Fractal Analytics?
What does Fractal do?
What do you know about the Imagineer role?
What extracurricular activities have you participated in?
Describe a challenging situation and how you handled it.
How do you deal with disappointments?
Unlike the technical rounds, the HR interview focused more on my communication skills, real-life experiences, attitude, and problem-solving approach.
The interview was friendly and conversational.
My Suggestions for Future Candidates
Based on my experience, I would suggest the following to students preparing for the Fractal Analytics Imagineer role:
Understand your resume thoroughly. Interviewers can ask detailed questions about anything you mention.
Do not just memorize ML algorithms. Understand their working, parameters, advantages, limitations, and why you selected them.
Prepare Python and basic DSA. Be comfortable writing and explaining simple programs.
Revise SQL and other technical fundamentals.
Build your projects yourself. Be prepared to explain the architecture, technology choices, database, backend, deployment, challenges, and future improvements.
Know your internship experience well. Be ready to explain your contribution and what you learned.
Prepare company-related questions. Know what Fractal does and understand the Imagineer role.
For HR, prepare real examples. Questions about challenges, teamwork, disappointments, and extracurricular activities are easier to answer when you have genuine experiences to discuss.
Focus on explaining your thought process. Interviewers are interested not only in the final answer but also in how you approach a problem.
Final Experience
Overall, my Fractal Analytics interview experience was a great learning opportunity. The process tested different aspects of my preparation, including aptitude, programming, ML concepts, DSA, project knowledge, internship experience, communication, and behavioral skills.
The most important lesson I learned was that candidates should have a deep understanding of whatever they mention on their resume. The interviewer can go beyond basic definitions and ask why a particular technology, algorithm, or approach was used.
I am grateful for the opportunity and happy to have been selected for the Imagineer role at Fractal Analytics.
I hope this interview experience helps future PICT students and other candidates preparing for Fractal Analytics.
All the best!
