Application & Selection Process
I got this internship through my college placement process. The selection process started with a proctored Online Assessment consisting of around 40 MCQs covering CS fundamentals, aptitude, Python and Java, followed by 2 medium-level DSA questions.
After the assessment, 12 students were selected for the internship, with no separate interview round.
My Internship Journey
The internship was hybrid, and the initial days focused on onboarding, understanding the team, project, product and development environment. Gradually, I started working on real-world tasks and took ownership of different parts of the project.
One of my biggest learnings was that an internship is not only about technical skills. It is equally about communication, teamwork, ownership, curiosity and learning how to work in a professional environment.
Try to understand your project deeply. You should know every important detail of what you have implemented, why you implemented it, the challenges you faced and how you solved them. Don't just complete the assigned task—try to implement something beyond what is expected wherever possible. It can make a noticeable difference during reviews and evaluations.
What I Learned
The internship helped me improve both technically and professionally:
Working with a real-world enterprise project and existing codebase.
Debugging and solving problems independently.
Understanding requirements before implementation.
Communicating progress and blockers effectively.
Working collaboratively with team members.
Taking feedback and improving continuously.
Taking ownership of tasks and delivering them responsibly.
Tips for Future BMC Helix Interns
Do's
Ask questions without hesitation. Never assume that you have understood something correctly. Clarify your doubts and try to understand the concept completely.
Be curious and proactive. Don't restrict yourself to exactly what is assigned.
Know your project thoroughly. Be prepared to explain every important part of your work.
Try to exceed expectations. If you have an opportunity to improve or extend your implementation, take it.
Focus on teamwork. Working well with your team is extremely important. Don't focus only on individual contribution; show that you can learn, collaborate and contribute as a team member.
Go to the office whenever possible. Since the internship is hybrid, going offline helps you interact with teammates, build connections and understand the work environment better.
Communicate and interact. Be approachable and talkative with your teammates. Building professional relationships is an important part of the internship.
Keep your mentor updated about your progress and blockers.
Don'ts
Don't hesitate to ask questions because you are afraid they may seem basic.
Don't work in isolation when collaboration can help.
Don't wait for someone to explain every single step.
Don't implement something without understanding why it is required.
Don't take feedback personally—use it to improve.
Final Presentation
Towards the end of the internship, there was a final technical presentation covering the work completed during the internship.
This is where knowing your project in detail becomes very important. Be prepared to explain your contribution, implementation, technical decisions, challenges, solutions and overall impact.
My advice is to maintain notes throughout the internship instead of trying to remember everything at the end.
PPO Selection Process
After the final presentation, there was a proctored Online Assessment for PPO selection consisting of 3 DSA questions—Easy, Medium and Hard.
Based on the assessment, selected interns were shortlisted for the final HR round.
Final HR Round
The final round was primarily an HR-focused interview. The questions were around:

Why you want to work at BMC Helix
Whether you are genuinely interested in continuing with the company
How you can contribute to the company's success
How you can be useful to the organization
Your overall internship experience
Your willingness to learn and grow with the company
Company-related questions
Contribution during the internship, and the challenges faced along with the correective actions taken.
The most important thing is to be honest, confident and clear about your interest in the company. Prepare your answers beforehand, but don't make them sound memorized.
Final Verdict 🎉
I was fortunate to receive a PPO from BMC Helix.
Looking back, my internship taught me that technical knowledge is only one part of being a good software professional. Teamwork, communication, curiosity, ownership and the willingness to continuously learn are equally important.
For anyone joining BMC Helix as an intern, my biggest advice is: learn as much as you can, ask questions, work well with your team, build connections, understand your project deeply and always try to contribute more than what is expected.
